MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday demolished 16 encroachments that have been coming in the best way of the flyover throughout the railway tracks close to Mahalakshmi station on Keshavrao Khadye. There are a complete of 48 structures and 16 have been demolished on Monday.
Officials mentioned {that a} cable-stayed bridge might be constructed from Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk (Satrasta) on Keshavrao Khadye Marg in direction of Haji Ali by the BMC.
“This bridge will be helpful in reducing the traffic on the present Mahalakshmi bridge,” an official said.
Also, the traffic coming from the coastal road which is currently under construction and going to South Central Mumbai will be smoother.
Eligible owners who have been evicted have also been legally rehabilitated.
The removal of these 16 encroachments has paved the way for the construction of the first phase of the flyover.
“To remove further encroachments, the process of rehabilitating the families is in the final stages and the remaining encroachments will also be removed in the next few days,” an official mentioned.
