Minister performs ‘gau pooja’ at Dalit woman’s gaushala

Minister for Social and Backward Classes Welfare Kota Srinivas Poojary carried out ‘gau pooja’ (worship of cow) as a part of Deepavali festivities at a Dalit woman’s gaushala in Udupi on November 5. The girl rears native breeds of cows.

Mr. Poojary visited the gaushala of Kamalamma, constructed on 3 cents of land at Ambedkar Colony in Doddamagudde, Udupi together with MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat. Ms. Kamalamma has been taking good care of about 60 cows in her shelter.

The Minister washed the legs of a cow and embellished her with turmeric powder, vermilion, garland and supplied meals underneath the steering of priest Padmanabha Acharya. Food was supplied to different cows too at the shelter. Later, the Minister supplied garments and sweets to Ms. Kamalamma and her son, and a bag of cow feed from the division.

Expressing shock at the woman’s initiative of sheltering such numerous cows in a restricted area, Mr. Poojary supplied to offer security services to the gaushala on the request of the MLA.

In different locations, individuals carried out ‘gau pooja’ of their houses whereas temples underneath the Muzrai Department throughout Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts carried out the ritual. Managing committees of a number of outstanding temples, together with Kukke Subrahmanya, Mangaladevi, Kadri Manjunatha, Mahalingeshwara in Mangaluru, and Mookambika in Kollur carried out the pooja as per a authorities directive.
